Cheapest Kindle 2021- Kindle Fire Not Just An E-Reader

iPad Rival? New Kindle Fire E-Reader And More

Amazon recently unveiled their latest offering the Kindle Fire. With the Kindle, Fire Amazon moves from offering simple e-readers, into the growing tablet market. Is the Kindle Fire the iPad killer? No! Apple has dominated the tablet market since the launch of the first iPad, and the Kindle Fire is not likely to be a game changer. However, the feature packed “Kindle Fire” at $199.99 is sure to entice consumers who want a tablet but aren’t willing to pay $500 for the lowest priced Apple iPad.

In this article, we will look at the features of Amazon's Kindle Fire, and see how it stacks up against its rivals, the Apple iPad, and the Nook Color.

Features Of The Kindle Fire

The new affordable multimedia tablet from Amazon

The Kindle Fire is packed with quality features at a budget price. Below is a rundown of all the Kindle Fires great features.

Low Price:

At $199, the Kindle Fire is a full $300 cheaper than the bare bones entry level iPad 2. That’s possibly an easier entry point for folks who are attracted to the iPad but can’t justify spending $500 for a portable computer when they already have a smartphone and a laptop.
Parents who want to get their child a tablet, but hesitate at the prospect of shelling out big money for an item that might be dropped in a puddle, may be charmed by the Kindle Fire’s $ price tag.

Multi-Media Content:

Over 1,000,000 Kindle books, 17,000,000 songs, and over 100,000 movies and TV shows, all available in the palm of your hand. With the purchase of a Kindle Fire Amazon offers a 1 month free trial of Amazon Prime, which allows users unlimited access to 11,000 movies and TV shows at no additional cost.

Accelerated Web Browsing:

The new Silk browser resides both on your Kindle Fire and on Amazon’s servers. As you are browsing Silk splits the workload between your device and Amazon’s servers. This makes for super-fast browsing. The Silk browser is only available on the Kindle Fire.

Free Cloud Storage:

All of your Amazon digital content is automatically archived in Amazon’s Cloud storage, where it can easily be retrieved at any time. No hassle No worries

WhisperSync

As with previous Kindle e-readers, the Kindle Fire allows you to sync your entire Kindle library across a wide range of devices and platforms. New for the Kindle Fire WhisperSync works for video as well. Start watching a movie on your Kindle Fire, and pick up where you left off on your television when you get home.

Color Touchscreen

The Kindle Fire sports a 7-inch full-color LCD touchscreen that deliver 16 million colors in high resolution and 169 pixels per inch. The Kindle Fire also provides a wide viewing angle, using IPS technology.

Kindle Fire: The Weaknesses

Amazon Cloud Mitigates Limited Storage

As might be expected to reach the sticker price of $199, Amazon had to look for places to cut costs. Below is a list of features that were scaled back or eliminated to reach that price point.

Not Compatible With Google Apps

With the Kindle Fire Amazon, utilizes its own Android App Store which currently offers more than 16,000 apps. I am sure if the Kindle Fire is half as attractive as it looks to be, developers will be scrambling to get their apps in Amazon’s App Store. It is currently unclear, but tech savvy users may also be able to side load Google Apps.

No Camera

The Fire does not have a camera. For many people, this won’t be a big deal as they find it more convenient to snap pictures with a smart phone, rather than a tablet. However, this also means that apps like Apple’s FaceTime chat service will not be replicated on the Kindle Fire.
No microphone either, so Skype type chat is out as well.

No 3G

Amazon is not offering 3G service with the Kindle Fire. I am sure this is part of Amazon’s effort to launch at the $199.99 price point.

Storage Not Expandable

8Gb storage capacity may be a little weak for a multimedia platform. Amazon’s cloud storage mitigates this issue to some extent.

How Does The Kindle Fire Compare To The Competition?

Kindle Fire v.s. iPad 2 v.s. Nook Color

The Kindle Fire as can be seen in the chart below is not a direct answer to Apple’s iPad. However, in this case, it is the top line that has to be taken into consideration. At $199.99 for the Kindle Fire compared to the iPads $499.99 starting price, the well appointed Kindle offers a great value for anyone whose heart is not set on an iPad.

Cheapest Kindle: What’s the Best Deal on Amazon Kindle?

With so many Kindles offered, it’s no surprise if you’re asking “what’s the cheapest Kindle?” Amazon currently offers six models, ranging from a simple e-reader to a full-color smart reader. Some Kindles even give you a choice between having ads displayed or not. It can be difficult to determine what the cheapest Kindle is–and more importantly–what the cheapest Kindle is for you.

With so many options, how do you choose? If you’re looking for the cheapest Kindle, the choice is easy. I’ve given several of these as gifts (and gave the Kindle many times this past Christmas), so read on to learn what I choose as the best low-cost Kindle, hands-down.

Cheapest Kindle Available: $79

Cheapest Kindle–With Ads

Kindle, Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers
The cheapest Kindle starts at a low price of only $79. This is much different from when the Kindle was first announced many years ago–you’re saving hundreds of dollars off that original price. This cheap Kindle is the cheapest Kindle available because ads are displayed–that is the only difference between the $79 Kindle and the $109 Kindle.

Cheapest Kindle Available: $109

What’s the Difference?: No ads
This cheap Kindle is your classic Kindle but at a low price! This device doesn’t display ads, so you’ll be getting a traditional reading experience–no bells and whistles necessary. The difference between the $109 version and the $79 version is just that: no ads on this cheap Kindle.

Kindle, Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display

That is a super-low deal on your classic Kindle. This is the perfect gift for avid readers, travelers and so much more.

At first, I thought this might be distracting (for those of you with smartphones, you know how annoying it can be when you are in the middle of playing of the game, and an advertisement interrupts your play). However, these have a distinct advantage–on top of this low price! Read on to learn more.

Should You Choose Ads or No Ads?

…and what I picked!

The only difference between these two cheap Kindles (both the Classic and the Touch) is that one displays ads and one does not. Like I mentioned above, my first thought was to buy the one without ads as I didn’t want my reading experience to be disrupted, however, I have since wholeheartedly changed my mind.

The ads are only displayed when you’re not reading. Just to emphasize that point further, the ads do NOT in any way interrupt or distract. They are only shown on your home screen or when the screensaver is turned on.

But, going with the cheapest Kindle at $79 can even save you more money in the long run! Recent ads have been very beneficial to Amazon customers. Some offers have included:

I’ll take Amazon coupons and Amazon discounts, thank you very much!

(And for those of you that were wondering, I chose the Kindle Touch with Ads–I love the ease of tapping to turn the pages which allow me to use either hand. This was important for me because I read a lot of different body positions. If I’m laying in bed, reclining on the beach or sitting on a plane, my hands shift. The Touch doesn’t require me to adjust my hands to read.)

If you’re looking for a cheap Kindle that is a touchscreen Kindle, this is it. So many people are used to touchscreen capability (most everyone has a smartphone these days), and this new Kindle mimics that. This Kindle Touch has a feature called EasyReach–basically, you can hold it in either hand and simply tap to advance the pages. Other eReaders make you swipe to turn the pages; this one is MUCH easier. This holds 3,000 books, and the battery lasts almost 2 months without a charge.

The difference between the $99 Kindle Touch and this $139 Kindle Touch is the same as the first Kindle in this article–the $139 version doesn’t have any ads. Everything else is the same.
